I have read recently that two women, one expecting the other on maternity leave, have been awarded £20,000 and £9,000 respectively because they were not included on the invite list to a works Xmas party.
They were awarded these sums by an employment tribunal. Is this honestly discrimination? We don’t know the facts but it could have been an oversight or maybe it was obvious they could not attend due to their condition. At worst it could lead to an apology but to make such payments leads me to think that some workplaces must be filled with fear and division and secrecy and silence and absolutely no trust.
Perhaps the Unions have overstepped the mark. Either way they seem determined to create disruption in some workplaces.
